Thunberg's energizing actions started in August of 2018. She calmly sat outside the Swedish Parliament, abstained from classes and sat on a banner that said "School Strike For Climate". The goal of her protest was to convince officials to act on climate change. Swedish media captured Thunbergs striking, and the news about her strike went out. In the following days, a plethora of students from around the globe joined her #FridaysforFuture protests, skipping class on Fridays in protest of climate change. Climate campaigners from around the globe organized the inaugural Global Strike for Climate in 2019. The strike was hugely successful and more than 1.6 million people across over 125 countries participated.
